In previous approximately forty-part salaattiohje series about the history of the development of computer technology, we have described several dozen different games developed by many companies and individuals, but so far no previously described game did not come from developers working for a software company Sensible Software. This initially very small group of developers and designers (all apparently working in a single office) became known among players in the early nineties, salaattiohje when Sensible Software began developing games for the popular Amiga personal computer. Many of these games received very good ratings from reviewers (sometimes more than 90%), so no big surprise that these successful games have been converted to other computers salaattiohje (Atari ST, IBM PC, etc.) and also the video game console, mainly on the Sega Mega Drive / Sega Genesis and competitive Super Nintendo salaattiohje Entertainment System (SNES).
In this article, we describe two games developed by Sensible Software. It is a strategy game Mega Lo Mania (Chapter 2) and the strategic-"war" game Cannon Fodder (Chapter 3). These games are from each other in many different ways, on the other hand, have certain elements in common. In both games are as displaying miniature figures of only a few pixels, as was the case in the game Worms series, which was founded salaattiohje a few years later (D: Team 17). Even a basic way to view the same - game scene is viewed slightly from above with the charm of many games from the eighties salaattiohje and nineties of the last century: the characters are shown from the side, the rest of the scene (buildings, trees) more from above, but without the use of perspective, but this is good because this way it was possible to maintain the simplicity and clarity of displaying both games (I personally am not a big believer in the use of 3D graphics salaattiohje even in those cases where it is not required, and 3D display is used only for effect).
Furthermore, both games in their original version of the Amiga oriented primarily to mouse control (icon, select salaattiohje characters in groups), which, however, he had to convert the video game console to change in such a way that it can use D-pad accompanied by three or four Another key. For this reason, it is necessary to retrieve the Mega Lo Mania and Cannon Fodder game console Sega Mega Drive to control some getting used to, especially the change between characters and selecting the menu in Cannon Fodder (using the mouse control is somewhat easier). Interestingly, the conversion of both games on the Sega Mega Drive / Sega Genesis quite a success, despite the fact that the graphics salaattiohje subsystem salaattiohje console that was never intended to view a large number of small figures (smaller than the classic sprites) - much of the work in the rendering to himself probably had to take Motorola M68000 microprocessor itself.
The first game, which in today's article, we describe a game with somewhat oddly named Mega Lo Mania. As we already know from previous chapters, the author of this rather unusual game by Sensible Software that Mega Lo Mania released in 1991 for the Amiga and the next two years then arose conversion to other PCs for gaming consoles. Mega Lo Mania is indeed a strategic game that, in many respects different from other strategy salaattiohje games, which emerged in the eighties and nineties of the last century.
